Initialization and optimization

Designing a rotor blade structure can begin as soon as the geometry is fixed, the loads affecting the blade are known, and the materials to be used in the blade have been selected. We use this information to produce a rotor blade model that is analyzed in full and then progressively optimized until all of the customer’s requirements and underlying conditions are met.

We pay particular attention to having as small a blade mass as possible and thus a financially competitive design.

Our engineers also have years of experience in fiber composites, which they apply with the aim of constantly improving WINDnovation rotor blades.

Close relationships with leading suppliers of fiber composite materials allow us to implement rotor blade innovations to the benefit of our customers.

Software by WINDnovation

We want to give our design engineers the maximum possible freedom to be creative in solving customer challenges. So we typically use software packages developed in-house that release the design engineers from as many routine tasks as possible.

We also use software such as ANSYS, SOLIDWORKS, FINSTRIP, and AutoCAD for specific tasks.

Certifying a rotor blade

The final stage of rotor blade design generally involves certification granted by an independent certification body, such as Germanischer Lloyd, DEWI-OCC, TÜV, or DNV. We are an active participant in this certification process on behalf of our customers.
